New Vanguard Boxes: Value Breakdown

Since our previous article, where we covered the Maggotkin, Fyreslayer, Idoneth Deepkin, Daughters of Khaine, and Nighthaunt vanguard boxes, there have been four more boxes released or revealed for Age of Sigmar.

Vanguard: Disciples of Tzeentch

UnitCost (£)PointsBattleline
1 Magister on Disk of Tzeentch£24.00145
10 Tzaangor£30.00175Yes
10 Kairic Acolytes£16.25120Yes
3 Screamers of Tzeentch£21.00100Conditional
3 Flamers of Tzeentch£21.00190Conditional
TOTAL VALUE£112.25
Saving£32.25
Discount28.73%
TOTAL POINTS730
Cost per point£0.11

These are staple units for Tzeentch armies these days and not a bad points total for a Vanguard box. Keep in mind the discount isn’t the best and Tzaangor particularly are over represented in other battle boxes and bundles so you might be able to snatch them up for a significantly better deal second hand. If you have a specific list in mind and it’s going to want Tzaangor maybe check Ebay first.

Vanguard: Lumineth Realm-lords

UnitCost (£)PointsBattleline
Scinari Cathallar£19.00110
5 Vanari Bladelords£37.50130Conditional on Scinari
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens£37.50150Yes
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinels£37.50150Conditional if you have Wardens
TOTAL VALUE£131.50
Saving£51.50
Discount39.16%
TOTAL POINTS540
Cost per point£0.15

Quite a basic box with no alternate build options but a steep discount. You’ll want to expand this with some more speciality units but it’s hard to imagine not having a use for everything in this box.

Vanguard: Sylvaneth

UnitCost (£)PointsBattleline
Branchwych£16.00130
3 Kurnoth Hunters£36.00250In a Heartwood Army
5 Tree Revenants£30.00110Yes
Treelord£42.50260In an Oakenbrow army
TOTAL VALUE£124.50
Saving£44.50
Discount35.74%
TOTAL POINTS750
Cost per point£0.11

This is a great example of a Vanguard box getting with the times. The new Sylvaneth are no longer as reliant on summoning swarms of Dryads as they were when their Start Collecting box was conceived so there’s none of them in here. What you do get is a lot of kits with multiple build options and a lot of battleline options, which makes this box a very solid foundation for a Sylvaneth force even in multiples.

Vanguard: Ogor Mawtribes

UnitCost (£)PointsBattleline
Tyrant£21.00150
Ironblaster, which can also be built as a Gnoblar Scraplauncher£24.00130
2x Mournfang Riders£21.25160In a Beastclaw Raiders army
4x Leadbelchers£26.00180In a Gutbusters army
6x Gluttons£32.50250Yes
4x Gnoblars
TOTAL VALUE£124.75
Saving£44.75
Discount35.87%
TOTAL POINTS870
Cost per point£0.09

It’s very sad to see the Beastclaw Raiders start collecting box getting replaced, as it was traditionally one of the better boxes to buy two off and and have a full army. All these units are solid and the scrap launcher is particularly looking good in the new battletome. I’m not sure the variety in this box is going to make it as good an idea to get multiples but it’s a good starting point and the highest points value of the current Vanguard boxes.
