Since our previous article, where we covered the Maggotkin, Fyreslayer, Idoneth Deepkin, Daughters of Khaine, and Nighthaunt vanguard boxes, there have been four more boxes released or revealed for Age of Sigmar.
Vanguard: Disciples of Tzeentch

Unit | Cost (£) | Points | Battleline |
1 Magister on Disk of Tzeentch | £24.00 | 145
10 Tzaangor | £30.00 | 175 | Yes |
10 Kairic Acolytes | £16.25 | 120 | Yes |
3 Screamers of Tzeentch | £21.00 | 100 | Conditional |
3 Flamers of Tzeentch | £21.00 | 190 | Conditional |
TOTAL VALUE | £112.25 | ||
Saving | £32.25 | ||
Discount | 28.73% | ||
TOTAL POINTS | 730 | ||
Cost per point | £0.11 |
These are staple units for Tzeentch armies these days and not a bad points total for a Vanguard box. Keep in mind the discount isn’t the best and Tzaangor particularly are over represented in other battle boxes and bundles so you might be able to snatch them up for a significantly better deal second hand. If you have a specific list in mind and it’s going to want Tzaangor maybe check Ebay first.
Vanguard: Lumineth Realm-lords

Unit | Cost (£) | Points | Battleline |
Scinari Cathallar | £19.00 | 110
5 Vanari Bladelords | £37.50 | 130 | Conditional on Scinari |
10 Vanari Auralan Wardens | £37.50 | 150 | Yes |
10 Vanari Auralan Sentinels | £37.50 | 150 | Conditional if you have Wardens |
TOTAL VALUE | £131.50 | ||
Saving | £51.50 | ||
Discount | 39.16% | ||
TOTAL POINTS | 540 | ||
Cost per point | £0.15 |
Quite a basic box with no alternate build options but a steep discount. You’ll want to expand this with some more speciality units but it’s hard to imagine not having a use for everything in this box.
Vanguard: Sylvaneth

Unit | Cost (£) | Points | Battleline |
Branchwych | £16.00 | 130 | |
3 Kurnoth Hunters | £36.00 | 250 | In a Heartwood Army |
5 Tree Revenants | £30.00 | 110 | Yes |
Treelord | £42.50 | 260 | In an Oakenbrow army |
TOTAL VALUE | £124.50 | ||
Saving | £44.50 | ||
Discount | 35.74% | ||
TOTAL POINTS | 750 | ||
Cost per point | £0.11 |
This is a great example of a Vanguard box getting with the times. The new Sylvaneth are no longer as reliant on summoning swarms of Dryads as they were when their Start Collecting box was conceived so there’s none of them in here. What you do get is a lot of kits with multiple build options and a lot of battleline options, which makes this box a very solid foundation for a Sylvaneth force even in multiples.
Vanguard: Ogor Mawtribes

Unit | Cost (£) | Points | Battleline |
Tyrant | £21.00 | 150 | |
Ironblaster, which can also be built as a Gnoblar Scraplauncher | £24.00 | 130
2x Mournfang Riders | £21.25 | 160 | In a Beastclaw Raiders army |
4x Leadbelchers | £26.00 | 180 | In a Gutbusters army |
6x Gluttons | £32.50 | 250 | Yes |
4x Gnoblars | |||
TOTAL VALUE | £124.75 | ||
Saving | £44.75 | ||
Discount | 35.87% | ||
TOTAL POINTS | 870 | ||
Cost per point | £0.09 |
It’s very sad to see the Beastclaw Raiders start collecting box getting replaced, as it was traditionally one of the better boxes to buy two off and and have a full army. All these units are solid and the scrap launcher is particularly looking good in the new battletome. I’m not sure the variety in this box is going to make it as good an idea to get multiples but it’s a good starting point and the highest points value of the current Vanguard boxes.
